Congressional Hearings – July 9, 2007

highlights:

1) Subpoenas issued for Sara Taylor by the Senate Judiciary Committee for 10 am Wednesday, July 11th and for Harriet Miers by the House Judiciary Committee for Thursday, July 12th.

2) Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee will consider the Libby matter, "The Use and Misuse of Presidential Clemency Power for Executive Branch Officials"

3) Thursday the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions considered the nomination of James W. Holsinger, Jr to be Surgeon General

Tuesday, Jul. 10, 2007

10 am – Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Disaster Recovery Subcommittee
To hold hearings to examine the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), focusing on addressing a prominent obstacle to the Gulf Coast rebuilding.

3 pm – House Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee
Hearing on "The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007 (H.R. 1424)"

Wednesday, Jul. 11, 2007

10 am – Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation
To hold hearings to examine United States weather and environmental satellites, focusing on their readiness for the 21st century.

10 am – Senate Judiciary
To continue hearings to examine the Department of Justice politicizing the hiring and firing of United States Attorneys, focusing on preserving prosecutorial independence (Part VI).

10 am – House Armed Services
The full committee will meet to receive testimony on global security assessment.

Hearing on: The Continuing Investigation into the U.S. Attorneys Controversy and Related Matters

To hold hearings to examine the nomination of James W. Holsinger, Jr to be Surgeon General of the Public Health Service.
